Portland Maine: Miss Portland Diner

You've just woken up, it's 11am in Portland.  You vaguely remember the 1,2,3 at the bar last night.  You are desperately hungry, where do you go?

I know what all of you who have been to Portland will say, Becky's.  Now I'm not going to put down Becky's.  The food there is good, very good.  However, if you want to eat the best corned beef hash on the planet, take a trip to the Miss Portland Diner.

I was going to post a link to walking directions, but lets face it, You're hungover.  You need food, right now.  Ask the hotel to give you a ride, its about five minutes, about the same amount of time you would spend waiting in line at Becky's.

I like sitting at the counter myself, your food comes faster that way.  I always get the same thing here, the corned beef and hash with eggs over easy and wheat toast.  I know they have other great dishes, but this one really hits that breakfast urge.  If anyone goes here on my reccomendation, please let me know if you get something other than the Corned beef hash.

With coffee the total came to 12.00 including tip.  It's worth the trip.

Syracuse: King David's

Today I had a fantastic lunch at King David's.  The restaurant is across the street from the Craftsman Inn, so its an easy walk, maybe 5 minutes.  Its on the left side of the shopping center past Target.  The food is Middle eastern/Greek.  It's an order at the counter, sit down at your own table operation, so you dont have to dish out for tips.

I had the Lamb Souvlaki platter, it was three pieces of marinated grilled Lamb, wrapped in a pita with  lettuce, grilled peppers, feta and Tzatziki sauce.  It was a little heavy on the sauce so I would order light on the sauce with all of their dishes.  It came on a plate with a small Greek salad and my choice of side.  I picked Hummus and it was of course, like everything else there, homemade.  As a bonus a small Falafel patty was nestled on the plate as well along with an extra pita for dipping in the hummus.  The Falafel was nice and crunchy on the outside without being greasy and creamy on the inside without being mealy. I loved what I had and devoured it like a wolf cub keeping food away from its siblings.  The next time I visit I will probably try the Falafel wrap

.  All told it was $12 with a large fountain drink.  If you wanted to be more economical, you could just get a pita sandwich and a drink and come away only spending $10.  The staff is friendly, even if they ARE Yankees fans.  This is my new favorite for the Syracuse overnight, Go there!

Greetings all, I am a man who is obsessed with food. I am a foodie, a foodaholic. I love to cook, I love to eat.  To that end I am creating this blog for my fellow blue airline crewmembers  that are on the road and are hungry and want to know where good food is on an overnight.

My goal is to find a delicious meal that costs about $12 with a drink.  I'm not cheap, just economical. You can find really good food out there that doesn't cost and arm and a leg, IF you are willing to sometimes go farther than the hotel restaurant.
